Salem Location

Barry Docks Offices

Salem Baptist Church is located in Beryl Road, Barry, just off the main shopping road of Holton Road.  This is close to the port of Barry on the southern coast of Wales, in the UK. The town has a population of some 50 000 people living in a number of residential areas in a rough arc some 3 miles from the docks and seaside.

The docks are being redeveloped into a waterfront area with housing, shops and light industry, whilst some commercial shipping use remains. There is a yacht club in the harbour and a fast lifeboat is based at Barry Harbour. The town has two beaches with good sand at Barry Island, Whitmore Bay and Jackson's Bay, and a resort seafront (Once an island but now joined by a road and rail causeway).  Moving west from Barry Island a 44acre harbour was created by the causeway to Barry Island.  This produces a tidal lake.  There is a rock beach at Watchtower Bay and then a long stretch of pebbles at 'The Knap'.

Further west, the Porthkerry Country Park has its own pebble beach, a popular pitch and putt golf course and acres of fields and woodland.  There are also two other local golf clubs.

East of Barry are the seaside resort of Penarth and the Capitol of Wales, Cardiff, approximately 8 miles form Barry.

The Cardiff International Airport is approximately 3 miles from Barry with flights to holiday destinations and some scheduled traffic to more distant places.

Not far from the civil airport is the former RAF base at St. Athan, that now houses Army personnel and new factories such as Aston Martin and Aircraft hangers.

The main industries in the local area, the Vale of Glamorgan, are considered to be agriculture land and chemicals with a major chemical site on the outskirts of Barry town used by a number of major international companies, including Dow Corning, Dow Chemicals, European Vinyl Chloride and Zeon Chemicals.

There are good rail and road connections to the mainline Swansea / London track and the M4 motorway.  There are 4 trains per hour to Cardiff and hourly trains to Bridgend via Rhoose and Llantwit Major.
