place in Barry -
Pictures
The Welsh National
Eisteddfod will be held in August 2012 in the Vale of Glamorgan.
As Barry is the civic centre of the Vale the proclamation
ceremony [which has to be at least one year and one day prior to
the event] was held in Gladstone Gardens. A procession was
held starting at King's Square, parading along Holton Road and
through Beryl Road [directly past Salem] to the park. It
was decided to open the church to let the people see the church
talk to those in attendance and have free refreshments.
During this time Anthony Lockyer entertained the visitors at the
piano. Over a hundred people came into the church to see, to talk and
to take refreshments.

Children's Saturday Club -
Pictures
Over the past 5 weeks at the
Children’s Saturday Club, we've been using material entitled
SUPERHEROES!!. The five Superheroes were
David (David and Goliath), the small boy with the
loaves and fishes, Samuel, Naaman and Josiah. Each week along
with a game, story, video, drama, fun worksheet, quiz and of
course refreshments at our 'Cafe' - the children had a craft
session and each week they made a piece of armour which
highlighted our super hero. Over the 5 weeks they made:
-
Belt of Truth
-
Helmet of Salvation
-
Shield of Faith
-
Breastplate of
Righteousness
-
Sword of the Spirit.
The children had such fun
making each piece (as well as the adults), and on our last week
we decided to have a mini photo shoot for all to see the full
regalia.
As
you can see we’re few in numbers but great on dedication and
faithfulness as each week the children arrive full
of enthusiasm, willing to learn and we all have lots of
fun!
This coming Saturday (24th
May 2008) will be our last until September as we are now
beginning to prepare for the Summer Holiday Club where the
children will partake in all the usual fun items that they do on
Saturdays but BIGGER, BETTER and for a little longer. 10am -
12noon.
I
hope as a Church or a friend visiting this website that you will
pray for the children and leaders that the Summer Holiday Club
will be successful and each child however young will come
to love and know the Lord Jesus as their Friend and Saviour.
We look forward to a week of
fun!

- Building Work Commences
The £150,000 modernisation and renovation of the schoolrooms
including new floors, new kitchen, new windows, new heating systems
for the church and schoolrooms, new toilets (including disabled
toilets) etc. has begun. The work should take up to 22 weeks.
During this time the Sunday services will be held at Gladstone
School Canteen. Please pray that the work will go to schedule that
the costs will be contained and the money required will be
forthcoming. Over £100,000 has been raised or given by members
of Salem for this work. £45,000 has had to be borrowed, so has
to be paid back. The work could not wait any longer as the dry
rot had caused a hole in the schoolroom floor and was taking hold of
window sills and parts of the pews in the church gallery.
